1 killed in car accident involving stolen vehicle in Washington

| Oct 1, 2019 | Personal Injury |

A 44-year-old man has reportedly died in a head-on crash after the driver of a stolen vehicle crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic in Washington. Losing a loved one in a car accident can be a harrowing experience, especially when the loss comes at the hands of another person’s negligent decisions. Those who encounter loss under similar circumstances may wish to exercise their rights to seek accountability, but they might need guidance in understanding their available legal options.

Law enforcement agents say they responded to reports of the incident just before 8 a.m. on a recent Monday. According to reports, the accident occurred when the driver of a stolen vehicle suddenly crossed through the median and collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck. The driver of the truck reportedly suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver who caused the crash suffered serious injuries and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Although the accident is currently under investigation, it remains unclear what might have caused the man to lose control and enter oncoming lanes. Authorities have also advised that upon being released from the facility, he will likely be taken into custody and charged with vehicular homicide.

Suffering the untimely loss of someone close in a car accident involving a negligent driver can be a devastating experience. Those who encounter a similar circumstance in Washington could benefit from retaining the services of an attorney early on for guidance on the best course of action with which to proceed. When the car operated by the at fault driver was stolen, the owner’s insurance company will likely deny any claim. A lawyer can assist in identifying all possible options for legal recourse, including claims for underinsured coverage for an accident victim from any applicable motor vehicle or homeowners insurance policies.
