Individuals who do a great deal of their traveling via sidewalks may find it advisable to have constant awareness of nearby vehicles. However, should a vehicle veer off road and onto a sidewalk, nearby pedestrians may find it nearly impossible to react in time to avoid a potential disaster. One person has died and another suffered injuries in a recent car accident in which a vehicle crossed onto a sidewalk before slamming into a nearby home in Washington.
Law enforcement agents responded to reports of the accident at around 6:15 p.m. on a recent Thursday. According to reports, the incident occurred when for unknown reasons, the driver of a vehicle lost control and the vehicle drifted onto a nearby sidewalk. It reportedly struck a nearby pedestrian and proceeded to carry her on its hood before eventually slamming into the garage of a nearby home.
Police have advised that a person sitting within the home was struck and injured by the vehicle and state that he was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, they also advised that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter. Although it remains unclear what might have caused the driver to veer onto the sidewalk, police have also advised that tests have been initiated to determine if impairment may have been a contributing factor.
Losing someone close or suffering serious injuries in a car accident involving a negligent driver can be a traumatic experience. Those who encounter a similar situation could choose to consult with an attorney for guidance in pursuing accountability through the civil justice system. This type of guidance could help a person in Washington better prepare to pursue the full amount of compensation entitled through a claim against the party deemed at fault.
