A driver’s licence comes a great deal of responsibility. In addition to obeying traffic laws, avoiding drinking and driving, etc., drivers involved in a Washington motor vehicle accident are expected to remain at the scene and be accountable for any part they have played in the incident. Unfortunately, some people fail to do so. Such was the case when a man struck a pedestrian in Spokane, resulting in fatal personal injury to the pedestrian.
The accident happened earlier this month. Reportedly, when first responders arrived at the scene, they found an injured pedestrian. They administered life-saving measures, but according to police, the man died at the scene. The driver then fled the scene in his vehicle.
Shortly after, police found an abandoned vehicle not far from the scene. They suspected it had been involved in the accident, but no arrests were made at the time. However, police have said that, recently, a 34-year-old man appeared in court on an unrelated matter. The detective involved in the case found probable cause to arrest him in connection with the fatal hit-and-run incident. Further evidence was found, and the man is now in jail.
Any driver responsible for such a horrific outcome likely feels a great deal of fear and anxiety in the aftermath, feelings that cause some people to flee from the scene, but this type of reaction can only lead to more trouble. Fortunately, the driver involved in this tragedy has been found and now faces charges for his actions, but sadly, a man is still dead. Separate from any criminal charges filed, the victim’s grieving family members may wish to consult with a Washington attorney experienced in personal injury. He or she could advise them of their legal options, including the possibility of a wrongful death lawsuit.
