Individuals who choose to operate a vehicle while under the influence not only risk placing their own safety on the line, but they may also endanger the well-being of others nearby. Even passengers who are riding with an impaired driver may have little to no control over what takes place, and they may suffer the consequences should an accident occur. A recent car accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Washington has left three individuals with serious injuries and claimed the life of the driver.

The accident is said to have taken place just before 1:30 a.m. on a recent Tuesday. Initial investigations indicate that the occupants of the vehicle had recently left the scene of a social gathering when the driver lost control and crashed the vehicle. Police advised that three passengers were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, while the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the crash revealed that all four occupants were under the age of 18. Police also state that the driver was operating on an intermediate license, which should have prevented him or her from driving at that time of night or from carrying minor passengers who were not family members. According to authorities, the primary contributing factors in the crash appear to have been impairment and excessive speeding.

Suffering serious injuries in a car accident can be a traumatic experience. Those who encounter a similar circumstance could choose to obtain legal counsel early on for advice on their available options for legal recourse. An attorney can evaluate the circumstances surrounding the incident and assist a client in Washington in pursuing restitution through a claim against the party or parties deemed responsible.
