Impairment suspected in car accident that injures 1, kills 1

| Jun 19, 2019 | Personal Injury |

Attempting to flee a traffic stop can be a dangerous decision and the events that take place during a police pursuit could place the safety of everyone nearby at risk. Motor vehicle accidents that occur during a high-speed pursuit run the unfortunate chance of having catastrophic consequences. One person was killed and another suffered injuries following a recent car accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Washington.

Police advised that the incident began after they received reports of a possible drunk driver on a recent Saturday afternoon. Upon locating the vehicle, officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and say that the driver subsequently began to flee. They claim the driver was exhibiting reckless behavior and operating at excessive speeds even after the pursuit was called off for safety reasons.

According to reports, the incident came to an end after the driver lost control in an intersection and crashed into a second vehicle head-on. The driver of the second vehicle was rushed to a medical facility for treatment of serious injuries, while the driver who caused the crash was pronounced dead at the scene. Police advised that they located containers of alcohol within the first vehicle and state that impairment appears to have been a contributing factor.

Individuals who suffer serious harm in a car accident involving a drunk driver may wish to exercise their rights to pursue accountability in civil court. Since navigating the civil justice system can be a complex process, a person could benefit from retaining the services of a personal injury attorney early in the process. An attorney can examine the incident and assist a client in Washington in pursuing the restitution entitled through a claim against the party deemed responsible.
