Derek D. Van Nest helps people who have suffered an accident or injury receive the benefits and compensation they deserve. Derek works to ensure that the responsible parties and insurance companies keep their promises and provide adequate funds to assist his clients with the overwhelming multitude of costs incurred through such a life-altering event.

In addition to his experience in the field of personal injury, Derek also has experience as a criminal defense attorney, with an emphasis in defending forfeiture actions arising out of violations of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.

Derek is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association, and the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association. He also volunteers his time as a member of the legal committee of Washington Ceasefire, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing gun violence.
Derek graduated cum laude from Seattle University’s School of Law in May 2006. He was admitted to practice law in Washington in the fall of 2006. He is also admitted to practice in United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.

Derek grew up in Kent, first attending Meridian Elementary, then Sequoia Junior High, and finally Kentwood High School, graduating in 1994. He completed his undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Washington in 1998. His family retains close ties throughout the Kent community.

Derek currently resides in south Seattle with his wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Vivian.
