In the time it takes to look down and change a radio station or grab an item from the passenger seat, a vehicle can travel several hundred feet in an unknown direction. Once a vehicle veers off course, it can become increasingly difficult to safely navigate back into the correct lane of traffic. One person is reportedly facing negligent driving charges following a recent car accident that left five people with injuries in Washington.

Law enforcement agents responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash just after 7 p.m. on a recent Saturday. Initial investigations indicate that incident occurred when the driver became distracted and lost control of the car. The driver reportedly overcorrected after the vehicle veered off the side of the road, subsequently causing it to overturn before coming to a rest in a nearby ditch.

Authorities advised that the driver and up to four passengers all suffered injuries in the crash. They have also advised that the driver has been issued a citation for negligent driving. However, no further information was provided as to what might have caused the driver to lose focus on the task at hand or if any other contributing factors were present.

Those involved in a car accident involving a distracted driver run the unfortunate risk of suffering serious or permanent harm in the process. Following such an incident, a person could choose to seek legal counsel for guidance on his or her available legal avenues. An attorney in Washington can evaluate the incident, along with a client’s injuries and financial needs, and assist in pursuing the compensation deserved through a personal injury claim.
