Sidewalks are intended to be a safe place for pedestrians to travel to and from their destinations. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case, and when a vehicle leaves the road and crosses onto a sidewalk, the safely and well-being of nearby pedestrians could be placed a serious risk in the process. As many as three individuals suffered injuries after they were struck by a suspected drunk driver during a recent car accident in Washington.

According to reports, the accident took place on a recent Saturday evening as the driver of a vehicle was exiting a driveway. Initial investigations indicate that upon attempting to enter the road, the vehicle proceeded to slam into the side of several parked cars before crossing onto a nearby sidewalk. He reportedly struck three pedestrians shortly thereafter, one of whom was a child.

All three victims were rushed to a hospital for medical care shortly thereafter, one of whom is reportedly being treated for serious injuries. Law enforcement agents stated that an investigation into the crash was initiated and that the driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Those who encounter such negligence while walking on a sidewalk may be left with little time to react and avoid collision and the consequences of a similar crash can be disastrous.

Suffering serious injuries in a car accident due to the negligent decisions of another party can be a stressful and haunting experience. With the extensive costs of medical treatment and the likelihood of a long road to recovery, a similar incident could leave a person in Washington in search of guidance on his or her available legal avenues. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can examine a client’s situation and assist him or her in pursuing the compensation entitled through a personal injury claim.
